Dar es Salaam Advances Urban Resilience with German and UN Support
Within the framework of collaboration with the SADC Secretariat, the German government through the GIZ’s Resilience Initiative Africa, jointly with United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), supported Dar es Salaam City through the Making Cities Resilient (MCR) 2030 initiative in building their disaster risk reduction capacity while assessing its disaster resilience based on the UNDRR's Ten Essentials for Making Cities Resilient.

From 17-19 June 2025, city officials and stakeholders gathered at Karimjee Hall in Dar es Salaam to complete the #MCR2030 Disaster Resilience Scorecard, as a crucial step toward evidence-based risk risk-informed urban development.
A key takeaway is the strong call to empower communities and scale up green infrastructure for long-term resilience.
Moving forward, a local Disaster Risk Reduction Action Plan will be developed to guide the city’s strategy.
