Urban Resilience in Africa: A Continental Review
The African Union Commission flagship report Urban Resilience in Africa: A Continental Review provides the first continental evidence base on urban resilience in Africa and outlines pathways for resilient, inclusive, and climate-ready cities.
The AUC through the African Urban Resilience Programme (AURP) developed the report with support from the Government of Germany through Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH’s Resilience Initiative Africa (RIA), in collaboration with the Aqinile Partnership (UNDP, UN-Habitat, AUC) and the United Nations University – Institute for Environment and Human Security. The report provides the first continental evidence base on urban resilience across 50 urban areas in Africa and outlines eight strategic recommendations for regional, national, and local action.
At a time of accelerating urbanisation and growing climate risks, the report positions urban resilience as a strategic foundation for Africa’s sustainable development, socio-economic transformation, and future urban agenda.
