Empowering Southern Africa: SADC Rolls Out Game-Changing Risk Model
From May 20-22, 2025, the SADC Secretariat, supported by the German government and partners, trained representatives from 12 member states in Johannesburg on the new SADC INFORM Subnational Risk Model, a tool to provide detailed risk assessments for more effective regional risk analysis.

From 20–22 May 2025, the SADC Secretariat - through support from the German government via GIZ/SADC’s Resilience Initiative Africa (RIA) programme and in partnership with UNDP, MapAction, and with technical support from Rivanna Strategy, hosted the first training workshop on the SADC INFORM Subnational Risk Model in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Representatives from 12 SADC Member States were introduced to the newly developed model and trained on how to apply it for more effective and collaborative risk analysis - supporting the alignment of development strategies with real, on-the-ground needs.
The model provides detailed, subnational-level risk assessments to help better understand hazards, vulnerabilities, and response capacities across the region.
